Description

The obverse: the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top — "ДВА РУБЛЯ 1996 г." (TWO RUBLES 1996), at the bottom — "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the mint trademark and the fine metal content.

The reverse: the portrait of Nikolai Nekrasov, to the left - two dates in two lines "1821" and "1878", to the right - a view of the Karabikha estate near Yaroslavl, below - a boy holding by the bridle a horse harnessed to a cart, at the bottom - the poet's facsimile signature, an opened book and a goose quill.

Nikolai Alexeyewich Nekrasov (1821-1878) - a Russian poet, prose writer and critic. He was editor and publisher of the magazines "Sovremennik" (1847-1866) and "Otechestvennye Zapiski" (1868-1878). His long poems "The Hawkers", "Father Frost, the Red Nose", "Russian Women" and "For Whom Living Is Good in Russia" and shorter verses draw a colourful picture of everyday life of the Russian people.
