Description

The obverse: the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top 25 1996 . (25 RUBLES 1996), at the bottom Ȼ (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the fine metal content and the mint trademark.

The reverse: sailing-ships during the Battle of Cesme, to the left above them - a portrait of Admiral Grigory Spiridov and under it - the semicircular inscription ".. " (G. A. SPIRIDOV). The inscriptions along the rim: at the top on a ribbon - "300- " (THE 300TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE RUSSIAN FLEET), at the bottom - " 1770 ." (THE BATTLE OF CESME. 1770).

During the Russian-Turkish war the Russian fleet, commanded by Admiral Spiridov, blocked the Turkish fleet in the Bay of Cesme of the coast of Asia Minor and destroyed it (June 26-July 7, 1770), giving Russia control over the Aegean Sea and the Dardanelles.
