The obverse: the two-headed eagle designed by artist I. Bilibin. The inscriptions along the rim: at the top 3 1996 . (3 RUBLES 1996), at the bottom Ȼ (BANK OF RUSSIA). The letters below indicate the metal sign, the fineness, the mint trademark and the fine metal content.

The reverse: a view of the Church of Ilya the Prophet in Yaroslavl, above - the date "XVII ." (17th century). The inscriptions along the rim: at the top - " " (THE CHRUCH OF ILYA THE PROPHET), at the bottom - "" (YAROSLAVL).

The Church of Ilya the Prophet (1647-1650) is a remarkable monument of the Yaroslavl school of architecture of the 17th-century. Its main decoration is the frescoes created by the famed Kostroma artists Guriy Nikitin and Sila Savin in collaboration with Yaroslavl painters.
