Description

The obverse: in the centre - the Emblem of the Bank of Russia [the two-headed eagle with wings down, lower - the semicircular inscription - "БАНК РОССИИ" (BANK OF RUSSIA)] framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ТРИ РУБЛЯ" (THREE RUBLES), at the bottom - the year of issue "2003", the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right - the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

The reverse: the view of monuments of the Ipatyevsky Monastery on a riverside, the inscriptions along the rim: at the top - "ИПАТЬЕВСКИЙ МОНАСТЫРЬ" (THE IPATYEVSKY MONASTERY), at the bottom - "КОСТРОМА" (KOSTROMA), above it - the dates "XIV - XIX вв." (XIVth - XIXth centuries).

The Ipatyevsky (St. Trinity) Monastery, situated on the spot where the Kostroma river flows into the Volga, was founded in the XIVth century. The architectural ensemble of the monastery includes fortress walls and towers (the XVIth - XVIIth centuries), the Trinity Cathedral (1650 - 1652) with the belfry (1603 - 1605), the Bishop Palace (the XVIth - XVIIth centuries), the boyars Romanoffs House (the XVIth - XIXth centuries).
