The obverse: in the center the Emblem of the Bank of Russia (the two headed eagle designed by I.Bilibin, lower the semicircular inscription Ȼ (BANK OF RUSSIA) framed by a circle of dots and inscriptions along the rim:at the top ߻ (THREE RUBLES), at the bottom 1999, the letters to the left indicate the metal sign and the fineness, to the right the fine metal content and the mint trade mark.

The reverse: the picture of panorama of architectural monuments of the Yuryev Monastery in Novgorod, above which to the left the date XII (the XIIth century), to the right a fragment of the iconostasis.The inscriptions along the rim: at the top ܻ (YURYEV MONASTERY), at the bottom Ļ (NOVGOROD).

The Yuryev Monastery (the XII-th- XIX-th centuries) is the most ancient men's monastery in Novgorod which has been founded by the Prince Vsevolod on the left shore of the River Volkhov. The Yuryev Monastery, having its unique individual style, being simple, laconic and expressive, is a vivid example of the Novgorod culture.
